Managerial Professional Development is one of the two classes I have taken at Bradford Manila this semester. The class schedule was a two-week intensive course so we only met on Friday nights and on the weekends for two weeks then that was it! We were done and all that’s left is an essay we submit online which I pray to God I pass!

Our classes consisted of covering topics on Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and group activities. In every class, each student got the chance to work with one another and share our experiences with CPD and how continuous learning affects our personal and professional lives and how important it was to an organisation. I think that was my favourite part of the class because I really got to hear real-life applications of some of the topics we were discussing and I got to take notes on what worked for them and what didn’t. Now I’m hoping I can apply that knowledge to my businesses as well.

Managerial Professional Development, as a subject, was interesting to me because it brought to life some of the things we learned in college but really showed us how it was used in the work place. Many people say that learning doesn’t stop when we leave school but sometimes were not even aware that learning is continuously taking place. This is especially applicable to HR Managers who have to make sure that all employees are properly trained and fully equipped to perform their job efficiently. The class really taught me that in order for CPD to be successful, one must take full responsibility for their own learning but also that it is important for an organisation to have the necessary support & environment to really encourage their employees development.

Just to give you an idea of what I mean, here are some examples for CPD that I remember off the top of my head: seminars, training sessions, MBA courses or even something as informal as gaining knowledge from a new experience. It doesn’t even always have to be formal or planned learning sessions. Sometimes, we learn something from our personal interactions that we can apply in our work lives and vice versa and now that I have taken this class, it really has taught me to be more aware of that opportunity and hopefully reading about this will inspire you to do one thing to improve a skill you may have or take on a new challenge.
